The Ministry of Education in Ghana has issued an official directive instructing the immediate suspension of the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School following allegations of sexual misconduct involving a female student.

Following the exposure of the allegations, the Minister of Education considered the issue exceptionally serious and directed the Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to take effective immediate steps to suspend the Headmaster, Mr. Zakaria Abdulai, pending full investigations into the matter.

In addition to internal administrative action within the education sector, the Minister requested the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters to commence a thorough criminal investigation into the case.

Reaffirming a zero-tolerance policy regarding student safety, the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service reiterated that they would not tolerate or countenance such alleged despicable misconduct in any educational institution across the country.

The official statement, dated October 13, 2026, and signed by Press Secretary Hashmin Mohammed, issued a stark reminder regarding the moral and professional obligations of educators.

Highlighting the trust placed in the educational system by families, the directive stated that

Parents and Guardians have entrusted their wards in the care of teachers whose responsibilities are to protect and safeguard the children and not abuse them.
